Doug and Kay Waack - a tribute

We
salute Doug & Kay
Waack who served 14 years
as General Manager and Public Relations/Tickets for Eastern Michigan Hockey.
Along with former Head Coach, Mike Donnelly, Doug (and Kay) started the rebirth
of EMU as a national powerhouse back in 1988-89. Since that auspicious start,
the Eagles have made the ACHA National Championships every year since 1990-91.
With two (2)
National
Runner-up titles in that time span, we keep wondering when we will get to take
that drink out of
the Murdoch Cup? Hopefully, with some hard work and determination, that dream
can come true this season. God knows that this team and this program deserve it!
Doug
and Kay have given much to EMU Hockey in the past 14 seasons.
Doug says, “We both feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to take part in
the development of so many
young student athletes lives over the years, affording them an opportunity to
play competitive collegiate hockey, but also to take with them (hopefully) a
lifetime of fond memories of
their
college hockey years.”
Doug
is extremely proud of the
team’s accomplishments of the past seasons and especially the last two seasons
and looks forward to this season with great anticipation and enthusiasm -- new
enthusiasm because of the appointment of our new Head Coach, Paul Fassbender,
"in whom I have the utmost faith
and confidence in to continue
the “tradition” of those before him. Paul will do an excellent job as Head
Coach of this program. He, along with his new assistants this year have a tough
act to follow but I am
confident that they all will prove to our competition, our peers, and colleagues
throughout the country that the right decision was made regarding the Head
Coaching position here at EMU!
Doug and Kay would both like to express thanks to the hundreds of players of EMU Hockey (present and past) for their outstanding dedication to the EMU Hockey program and "for making the hockey program here at EMU something that both Kay and I can be proud to have been associated with. And to all of them for also giving us some really great and fond memories, especially from those early days.”
